Master proper form.
Good typing starts with correct hand placement. Learn the fundamentals.
The Home Row Position
Your fingers rest on the home row — the middle row of letter keys. This is your starting position and where your fingers should return after every keystroke.
Notice the small bumps on F and J — these are tactile markers that let you find the home position without looking.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Looking at the keyboard
Train yourself to type by feel. Cover your keyboard with a cloth if you have to.
Hunting and pecking
Using only 2-3 fingers is fast to learn but slow to master. Use all 8 fingers.
Rushing for speed
Speed comes from accuracy. Start slow, build muscle memory, then speed up.
Lifting fingers too high
Keep your fingers close to the keys. High finger lifts waste time and energy.
Ignoring the space bar
Use your thumb for the space bar — never a finger. Both thumbs can reach it.
